Miguel Cervantes is headed home to Broadway. The Hamilton alum who recently closed out the Chicago production will return to the title role in the main-stem staging at the Richard Rodgers Theatre this spring; an exact start date will be announced soon. Cervantes will replace Austin Scott, who recently exited Hamilton to appear in the new Broadway musical Girl From the North Country; the role of Alexander Hamilton is being played in the interim by alternate Ryan Vasquez.
In addition to his recent Chicago turn in Hamilton, Cervantes previously played Alexander Hamilton on Broadway and on tour. His other stage credits include Broadway roles in If/Then and American Idiot and a touring turn in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Off-stage, Cervantes used his voice following the death of his three-year-old daughter Adelaide, who had been diagnosed with epilepsy when she was an infant. During his daughter's struggle, Cervantes and his wife, Kelly, raised funds for the Chicago-based organization Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy.
Cervantes will join a current Hamilton cast that includes Daniel Breaker as Aaron Burr, Nicholas Christopher as George Washington, Krystal Joy Brown as Eliza, Mandy Gonzalez as Angelica Schuyler, James Monroe Iglehart as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Wallace Smith as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Joanna A. Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, Daniel Yearwood as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton and Euan Morton as King George.
Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, with musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire.
